Karpacz - the town beneath Mount Śnieżka
Karpacz is one of the most important centres for skiing (including ski jumping) and mountain hiking in south-western Poland. It is well known ski resort and a spa town in Jelenia Góra County, Lower Silesia Voivodeship.
Karpacz is located at 480 to 885 meters (1,575 ? 2,904 ft) above sea level. Mount Śnieżka (1,602 m) is situated on south of Karpacz, on the border to the Czech Republic. Population of Karpacz is about 5,000.
Karpacz is situated in the Karkonosze Mountains ? a resort with increasing importance for tourism as an alternative to Alps!
Because of its turist advantages Karpacz has become very popular resort among foreigners tourists as well as native tourists.
Karpacz is 40 square kilometers in area. The boarders of the town include the highest parts of Karkonosze - along with the Śnieżka Mountain. Because of its location and the advantages of natural environment Karpacz is a sports and recreational center in the winter as well as in the summer. Holiday in Karpacz means mainly skiing and tourism. In the town there are about 11500 accommodation places in hotels, pensions, holiday houses, hostels, private rooms and camping sites.
Karpacz is well known as a great place for skiing. The ski resort "Kopa" in the Karpacz is located at an altitude of 820 to 1,340 meters above sea level. Skiers can take advantage of 7 lifts, two chairlifts and five t-bars. Trails are artificially snowed. Skiers' safety is assured by lifeguards Mountain Rescue. Generally, Karpacz - Kopa has mainly early-intermediate skiing and snowboarding and is a family-friendly ski resort. Karpacz - Kopa access two distinct summits above the village, with several smaller ski areas nearby.
Each year about 150000 of tourists visit Karpacz. At the disposal of the tourists are: chairlift to the Kopa Mountain, summer toboggan run, winter toboggan run, ski ? lifts, two ski ? jumps and tennis courts. Many tourist trails start in Karpacz along with the busiest trail to Śnieżka.
The town is the organizer or co-organizer of many sports, entertainment, and cultural events (together there are about 70 of them in each year). Karpacz attracts people with beautiful views and clean air. It constitutes a place where you can rest, recover and have fun at each time of the year.
